Cultural Photographer H. Allen Benowitz has been chosen as one of Art Business News’ Top Emerging Artists for 2014, published in its fall edition. In addition, two of his visual works of art have been selected for inclusion in the International Contemporary Artists art book, Volume VIII, entitled “An Exploring Journey to Art.” His work will be on display at Spectrum-Miami December 3-7, 2014, during Miami Art Week/Basel.

WLRN’s ArtStreet Project featured the cultural photographer on PBS. The biographical Look “Into The Lens of Photographer H. Allen Benowitz” featured photographs from Cuba, Morocco, India, and other parts of the world.

Benowitz has received numerous honors and awards. His highly acclaimed photo, “Behind the Wall,” received national recognition at Holland & Knight Charitable Foundation’s Holocaust Remembrance Project Awards Dinner in Washington, D. C. 

Recognition for Benowitz’s photography include a Judges’ Award at the UM Lowe Art Museum’s Beaux Arts Festival; honorable mention in the International Kodak Contest; award winner B/W photography, One Ear Society; repeat finalist in the Photography Masters Cup Annual Color Awards Competition; juried exhibitions at the Coconut Grove Art Festival, Beaux Arts Festival, Las Olas Art Festival, Ft. Lauderdale, Books & Books, Coral Gables, FL, and others. Among numerous publications in which he has been featured and appeared are the ARTnews, Miami Monthly Magazine, The Andrews Journal, The Journal of Court Reporting, Miami Snow Ski Club Magazine, Miami Art Guide, and Coastal Elegance & Wealth, the Laurel of Asheville, and Art Business News magazines. His photo subjects include Landscape, Wildlife, People, Adventure Travel, and Architecture. Exhibitions include the Coconut Grove Art Festival Gallery; Rosen Museum Gallery, Boca Raton; retrospective at the Espirito Santo-Conrad Hotel, Miami; Miami Art Space, Wynwood; Darby Technologies, Coral Gables, FL; ArtSight Gallery, Coral Gables, FL; and Spectrum-Miami during Art Basel; Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, FL.

Benowitz’s solo exhibitions in North Carolina: The Design Gallery in Burnsville, on the Blue Ridge Parkway at theAltapass Orchard in Little Switzerland, the Andrews Art Museum in Cherokee County, and the Toe River Arts Council in Burnsville. 

In 2008, Mr. Benowitz returned from Cuba on a humanitarian mission where he photographed “Life in Cuba 2008.” This occurred shortly before Hurricanes Gustav and Ike wreaked their havoc on the people of Cuba. His pre-storm photographs have preserved the impoverished state of this beautiful little island on film. Recently released is his new work from the Pyrenees of southwestern France; soon to be released is his work from the Serengeti, Tanzania, and the cloud and rain forests of Cali, Colombia.

Allen Benowitzwas born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from the Interboro Institute of Business, Manhattan. A self-taught photographer, he lives in Miami and spends time with his wife, Jo, at their log home in Burnsville, NC.
